Francesco Panozzo
Artista
Francesco Panozzo (Varese, 1985) lives and works in Valcuvia. In 2008, he graduated in Sculpture at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, Milan, with a thesis on Joseph Beuys which explored Arthur Schopenhauer and Friedrich Schelling’s influences on his artistic path. In 2010, after the premature death of his father, he decided to immerse himself in the rural environment which he had long observed. He was able to apply the skills acquired through his research on sculpture to this new field, thanks in part to his participation in several seminars and workshops concerning different technologies and materials, including wood and stone. He acquired additional skills by working in the alchemical chain of food farming, viticulture, livestock breeding, and beekeeping. He considers digging an 80-metre-long ditch to plant asparaguses a sculpting matter, and the same goes for preparing and designing the space for the breeding of goats and heifers. Cleaning the forests, gathering timber, processing slaughtered meat, organising the crops, and caring for the hive and its products – in short, living – are all activities he considers to be sculptural endeavours. In 2011, he put his skills and workspace in Valcuvia at work, hosting the Plastic and Performative Arts workshop led by Paolo Gallerani and Aldo Castellano as part of the History of Architecture course at the Leonardo Campus of the Polytechnic of Milan.
