Yuriy Seredin
Pianist and Composer
Pianist and composer Yuriy Seredin is one of the brightest representatives of the Ukrainian jazz scene. His music, at times cinematic, combines modern jazz, minimalism and polyphonic forms in a perpetual contrast at the boundary between human drama and meditation. His works are very personal, often referring to specific situations regarding life and personality. Yuriy taught at the Lviv National Music Academy, and now he composes scores for Ukrainian movies and TV shows. Having been in Europe a few days before the outbreak of the Russian war on Ukraine, after February the 22nd 2022, he was forced to stay in Berlin, where he had previously studied, to carry on his musical activities and charity work. Yuriy Seredin has recorded and played with Nasheet Waits, Ben van Gelder, Seamus Blake, Satoko Fuji, and other iconic musicians belonging to the American and European jazz scene. He was also granted scholarships by the Ministry of Culture of the Italian Republic (Teatro Massimo, Palermo), the Deutscher Musikrat, and the Berliner Senat.
